Greek Relish

January 18, 2021 by kelseynixon

A fresh Mediterranean take on a relish that can be served on it's own, with pita chips, or alongside fish or chicken.

What is Greek Relish?

If you love a traditional Greek salad (like I do!), then you will love this relish. It's a simple, fresh, and healthy recipe that is delicious served with pita chips or over fish or chicken. It has nearly all of the same components of a Greek salad, it's just chopped much finer (I like doing this with my Braun Multi-quick blender). The mix of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, and olives is everything I want when it comes to a Mediterranean flavor profile.

Is it relish or is it salsa?

I Say Tom-AY-toe, You Say Tom-AH-toe...honestly, there's not much of a difference. Typically I'd consider a relish to be a finer consistency than a salsa, but they basically serve the same purpose. Often times I'll double this and use it for two different purposes – as an appetizer while watching the big game or the awards show, and then as a condiment served over grilled fish. I love how versatile it is!

Make + Store Ahead of Time

Consider making this relish ahead of time to assist with meal prep. I usually make a big batch of it and store it in the fridge for a couple of days so that I can use it here and there. If you plan to do this as well, leave off the feta and sprinkle it on top as you eat it. The veggies will give off some liquid the longer it sits so just pour that off before enjoying.

Refreshing and perfect for any party or gathering -- unique flavors and fresh ingredients (plus it's quick to make ahead of time!)

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup English cucumber, roughly chopped

  • 1 cup grape tomatoes

  • ½ red onion, roughly chopped

  • ¼ cup pitted Kalamata olives

  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • ½ teaspoon Greek Seasoning

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese

  • pita chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a small food processor or blender, add the cucumber, tomatoes, onion, olives, vinegar, olive oil, and greek seasoning.

  2. Pulse until desired texture is reached. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

  3. Sprinkle with feta. Serve as a relish to chicken or fish or serve as an appetizer with pita chips.

Notes

Consider making this relish ahead of time to assist with meal prep. I usually make a big batch of it and store it in the fridge for a couple of days so that I can use it here and there. If you plan to do this as well, leave off the feta and sprinkle it on top as you eat it. The veggies will give off some liquid the longer it sits so just pour that off before enjoying.
