Krispie Treat Perfection
It’s hard to argue with the back of the box instructions for classic Rice Krispies Treats. Let’s be honest, they are pretty close to perfection. I never really saw any need to change them, but then curiosity got the best of me and I started to finesse the method just a bit. Recently, I have gotten a kick out of adding ingredients and changing some of the techniques to make the Rice Krispies Treats even better. A few extra tips to take these over the top!

Tasty Tips for The BEST Rice Krispie Treats
Here are 3 simple tips to making your Conversation Heart Rice Krispie Treats taste EVEN BETTER
- Better Butter: I slightly increase the amount of butter used in the standard recipe. Beyond that, buy the best butter you can get your hands on – for me that’s Kerrygold. Lastly, take the time to slightly brown your butter. Keep a close eye on it as you develop that irresistible nutty flavor. It’s worth the extra step and truly the most delicious foundation for your krispie treats.
- Say yes to Salt: Salt makes a big difference in this simple recipe. It enhances all of the ingredients used independently (butter, marshmallows, cereal, etc.) and gives it some extra oomph. The salt also contrast the sweet perfectly.
- Very Vanilla: For me, adding a splash of vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste) is crucial to making a krispie treat worthy of the assumption that it was made in a bakery. It’s a pantry staple that’s easy to grab and worth the minimal effort it takes to add it. It’s that think that will make your friends and family say “what’s in these?!”

A Lovely Touch
Any change feels seismic with this simple dessert staple. All the upgrades in this recipe are small and may even feel fussy (toast the cereal, you say?), but their impact is worth the tiny bit of effort.
These same Krispie Treats can be spruced up for any holiday or event! Switch up food coloring and candy decorations and they can become shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day, or any shape for a child’s birthday party. The possibilities are endless with this simple and delicious treat. Check out my Valentine’s Day Holiday Hub for more thematic ideas!
