Almond Poppyseed Heart Waffles

  • Author: Kelsey Nixon
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 12 mini waffles or 6 standard size waffles 1x

Classic waffles with an almond poppyseed flair. Perfect when made in your heart shaped waffle iron for Valentine’s Day.

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon poppyseeds*
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract*
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or vegetable oil

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk to combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and poppyseeds.
  2. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, almond extract and melted butter. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix just until incorporated.
  3. Grease your waffle iron with non-stick spray. Based on the size of your waffle iron, pour in an adequate amount of batter and cook until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter. (for this mini heart waffle iron I use 1/4 cup batter)
  4. Serve with berries, a drizzle of maple syrup, or whipped cream.

  • You can eliminate the almond extract and poppyseeds for a more classic waffle.
