Almond Poppyseed Heart Waffles
January 28, 2021
Classic waffles with an almond poppyseed flair. Perfect when made in your heart shaped waffle iron for Valentine’s Day.

A match made in heaven
Nothing beats a fluffy, buttery waffle with a crispy exterior. And if we’re being honest…a good waffle is simply a vehicle for a good old fashioned maple syrup drizzle. The only thing that beats a classic waffle in my book, is one with an almond poppyseed flavor profile. It’s like taking your perfect muffin and introducing it to the classic waffle. A match made in heaven! Almond Poppyseed Heart Waffles are sure to be a new family favorite for Valentine’s Day Brunch.

Dash Mini Heart Waffle Iron
While this recipe is simple when it comes to the ingredients, it has huge impact in the flavor department. The thing that makes it extra special though is using the world’s cutest heart shaped waffle iron for…wait for it…MINI heart waffles. They’re perfect if you have young kids in the house or you’re looking for an excuse to throw back 5 waffles on a weekday morning. If you want a more standard waffle-making experience, check out my review here.

Simple Waffle Variations
One of the things I love most about this recipe is that the base recipe is a classic waffle recipe that works every time. All it takes to transform these waffles is two simple ingredients – almond extract and poppyseeds. It’s just as easy to leave them out as it is to throw them in. So you can determine what you’re in the mood for and head in that direction. I’ve also been known to add in a little lemon zest with the almond and poppyseeds or simply just a splash of vanilla extract in place of the other additions. Almond Poppyseed Heart Waffles are simple and delicious, but feel free to make it how you like it and treat the recipe like a blank canvas.
